Baldur's Gate 3, developed and published by Larian Studios, is the third installment in the Baldur's Gate series, which is based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system.

 The game was initially released in early access for macOS, Windows, and Stadia on October 6, 2020. 

After an extended early access period, the full Windows version of the game was officially launched on August 3, 2023. Subsequently, it was released for PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2023, and macOS on September 22, 2023. 

An Xbox Series X/S version is also planned for a late 2023 release. Baldur's Gate 3 garnered critical acclaim, particularly for its captivating narrative, engaging gameplay, and the significant impact of player choices.

Game play

Baldur's Gate 3 is a role-playing video game that offers both a single-player experience and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. In the game, players have the flexibility to create and control one or more characters, assembling a party that can include pre-generated characters to delve into the game's storyline. Optionally, players also have the opportunity to team up online with other players, forming a collaborative party.

A notable departure from previous titles in the Baldur's Gate series, Baldur's Gate 3 features turn-based combat, which is reminiscent of Larian Studios' earlier games, Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin II. The combat mechanics are closely aligned with the rules of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.

Game events

The game unfolds in the year 1492 DR, a century-plus after Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and shortly following the events of the Dungeons & Dragons 5e module, Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. It boasts a branching narrative where core story elements remain consistent regardless of player choices, though side quests exhibit significant variability. At the game's outset, players can craft an original character with an open backstory, select from six preset "origin characters," or opt for a customizable seventh "origin character." Each player character offers unique questlines and distinct paths, but their gameplay largely aligns based on the player's style.
